Promoting history and heritage

The Ashfield and District Historical Society (ADHS) celebrates the history and heritage of Ashfield and surrounding suburbs in Sydney’s inner west. In 2023 we celebrated the Society’s 50th anniversary. We collect and curate historical records, undertake research, publish journals and books and promote the heritage of our local district. We organise regular events throughout the year that include talks and presentations, site visits, walking tours, discussions and forums.

The Society can help you with research on your family, your house or community organisation. Come and join us at one of our events or visit us at our Research rooms in the restored Thirning Villa (1868), located in the grounds of Ashfield’s Pratten Park. The rooms are open on the second and the last Saturdays of each month between 11am and 4pm. Weekday visits can be arranged by appointment.
